Ep 262 – Honouring Jack Charlton, Sullivan’s Brewery Coming to the UK and Rose of Tralee Update

This week…

In Part 1… We’re at the Tyneside Irish Centre, where John Charlton, son of Jack Charlton RIP, receives the Presidential Distinguished Service Award on behalf of his late father. Adrian O’Neill, the Irish Ambassador presents the award on behalf of the Irish President.
Jack Charlton gained Irish citizenship in return for his successes leading the Irish National Team in the 80s and 90. He was much loved and respected in both the UK and Ireland.

Interviews with John Charlton, Nieve Charlton (Jack’s granddaughter) and former Manchester United player, Mick Martin give us an insight into the great man, and just how professional football was organised back in the day.

Adrian O’Neill and Sarah Mangan represent the Irish Government, and talk about what made Jack Charlton such a National Treasure.

Possibly the best story ever, about Jack Charlton, comes from club secretary Tony Corcoran! No spoilers, you’ll have to watch!

In Part 2… Firstly, we’re in Manchester meeting the team behind Sullivan’s Brewing Company. Sullivan’s has a long and interesting history and had disappeared from the traditional brewers of Ireland, but now, the town of Kilkenny is back on the map as home to this reborn brand.
Dan Smitwick, part of the age-old Smitwick brewing family has revived this traditional brand and Steve McDonagh gives us an insight into just what makes their beers so special. And they’re in the UK now!

And then, we’re across to Leeds to talk to Christine Walker, regional organiser, for an update on the Yorkshire entry for the Rose of Tralee. You’ll just have to watch to find out!
