The Irish in the UK – Ep 229 – New Irish Consulate in Manchester and the Brian Boru Club!

This week, we’re at the brand new Irish Consulate in Manchester and then on to the Brian Boru Irish Club, Ashton-in-Makerfield.
In Part 1… The opening of the new Irish Consulate in Manchester cements the strong social and trade relationships between the North of England and Ireland. We meet Simon Coveney, Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sarah Mangan, the Consul General and Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester.
The VIP guests highlight the great opportunities available to the Irish community now that there is a Consulate in the North of England. As ever, the show is underpinned by great traditional music provided by the Leeds Irish Arts Foundation.
In part 2… We travel across to the Brian Boru Irish Club in Ashton-in Makerfield. It’s the oldest Irish club in the UK, dating back to 1889! Like many clubs, Brian Boru has suffered during lockdown but through loyal support and strong management, they’re up and running with music, dance and entertainment. We join them for a night celebrating the life of the late Billy Greenall, with live entertainment provided by local musicians and the Castlemore Ceili Band.
Lots of music, dancing and fond memories.
