The Irish in the UK – Ep 241 – Bethlehem Boxing Club, Anne Marie’s Ladieswear and 25 years of Mulligan’s Funerals

This week…

In Part 1, we meet Lee Murtagh who became the first Leeds born All Ireland Boxing Champion. He’s since set up the Bethlehem Boxing Club in Leeds. We spend an evening with him seeing all the action from young and old. Lee’s mum proudly looks after his Light Middleweight belt and he talks about how she has been helped in her advancing years by the charity, Leeds Irish Health and Homes. Again, this a cause so well supported by the Irish community.

In Part 2, it’s down to Hitchin to meet Anne Marie Rouse. Like many small businesses, she’s had to adapt her Ladieswear business during the pandemic but she’s bouncing back. She speaks passionately about Hitchin and supporting independent traders on the high-street.

Back up the motorway to Lancashire and to meet Karen Mulligan and her team at Mulligan’s Funeral Services. They’ve been operating for 25 years now and are opening new premises to allow them to give a greater range of services.
