Ep 263 – Irish Night at Grim’s Dyke Hotel, Alan Keegan; the Voice of Old Trafford and Declan McSweeney’s quest for age/work equality

This week…

In Part 1… We’re at Grim’s Dyke Hotel in Harrow, for an evening of Irish entertainment, organised by Gerry Molumby and Patrick O’Connell from the Triskellion Irish Theatre Company. As Patrick says, a great night to get out and have a bit of Irish! Gerry recites from the great Percy French and we have music and dance from the London Celtic Youth Orchestra along with a special performance from Asa Murphy, who brings his unique talents to the Grim’s Dyke Hotel.

We also hear from Catherine Murphy about IrishRadio.org and Gerry Byrne’s live show.

A good toe tapper to get the party started!

On to Part 2.. Alan Keegan is the voice of Old Trafford! On the side lines providing stadium announcements for his beloved Manchester United, Alan is a well known “fixture” of the Manchester United set-up. He’s organised, with his friends, a fundraising evening and he tells us about how he got involved in supporting the Christie Hospital in Manchester. He’s resurrecting his AK-OK 80s disco to support the Christie and we hear about his brush with skin cancer.

Straight on from Alan, we meet Declan McSweeney. He’s an experienced writer and journalist who is struggling to get work. Despite being extensively published, he sees that the world of journalism is geared against the older experienced person. Do you have a similar problem?
