Ep 308 – Charity Evening Remembering Margaret Sherlock and Ernie Welch’s Salt of the Earth Group

In Part 1… We’re in Chorley at the St Mary’s Parish Centre for an evening of entertainment to raise funds for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation. Rosemere supports world-class cancer treatment throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria and was a cause close to the heart of the late Margaret Sherlock. Margaret appeared on your screens a few years back when she officially became the UK’s longest serving hairdresser. Working well into her 90s, Margaret was very well known locally and across the Irish Sea. She had a loyal customer base going back decades.

Margaret sadly passed last year.

Margaret’s life story is captured in a book authored by her Daughter Linda. “Shampoo & Set” tracks Margaret’s Journey through life from humble beginnings in rural Ireland to running her own business in the UK.

The tribute evening in Chorley bounces along with music by Lindsay Ritson and Sean Leonard.

In Part 2… We pay a return visit to the Old Star in Winsford. Landlord Ernie Welch has been a local councillor for a year. What are his plans for re-election?

Ernie is one of life’s survivors and has a passion for making the world better. Recovering from cancer last year, rather than sitting back and taking it easy, Ernie threw himself into being a local independent councillor, where his plan was to take the politics out of local government! We meet the “Winsford Salt of the Earth” team and hear their ideas for the years ahead.

4th May 2023 is Local Election Day! Make sure that you vote and remember you’ll need to show photo identification. You can use any of the following:
