Ep 470 – Birmingham Irish Association

This week, we visit the Birmingham Irish Association at its new premises in Kings Heath and experience the vital role the organisation plays in supporting the local Irish community. The association provides a welcoming hub where people can connect, access advice and support services, take part in cultural activities, and combat social isolation.

We look at the association’s dementia services, which offer specialist support for people living with dementia and their families. These services help individuals maintain independence, wellbeing, and meaningful connections within their community.

We meet up with Trudy McGroarty, Service Manager at the Birmingham Irish Association, who explains the value of the organisation to Birmingham’s Irish population. She discusses how the association continues to evolve to meet changing needs while preserving a strong sense of identity, belonging, and support for generations of Irish people living in the city.
