The Irish in the UK-Episode 239 – It’s nearly New Year.. Some of the highlights from the last year

In Part 1..

Through his job as a Paramedic, Nigel Flanagan recognised that children in hospitals over the festive season need that extra bit of love and so he has organised an annual toy collection for them. From humble beginnings, his collection has now been running ten years.

The Birmingham Irish Association built on their strong community links to provide shopping, clothes and hot meals to those in need during lockdown. Meet the team behind all of this.

Always a favourite, the Irish Rambling House provide their unique entertainment. Traditional music, comedy and lots of energy.

In Part 2..

Brendan Farrell organised an exhibition at Birmingham Central Library. “You’ll Never Go Back Now” showcases the lives of those who left Ireland to make their lives in the UK.

Danny Tim O’Sullivan becomes a Freeman of the City of London. Among other things, this entitles him to walk his sheep across London Bridge! Hear his story and sing along!

And finally.. It’s “The Gathering”.. An epic walk and charity fundraiser. Walking from Warrington to Manchester and on to Huddersfield. Plenty of blisters and support for good causes.
