This week on The Irish in the UK…
In Part 1… We’re in Birmingham at the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Centre for an evening of music and dance.
Our Lady of Lourdes is a popular venue for traditional Irish acts and has a constant flow of performers from across the water.
This week, it’s Paul Kelly supported by Jimmy McLaughlin and Ian Casey.
We chat with all the performers and meet the club manager, Adam McSharry.
In Part 2… We’re in London at the Irish Embassy.
The Immigrant Support Programme directly helps to support UK based projects. Clubs and societies are awarded funding directly from the Irish Government, and at this event, the Minister of State for Overseas Development and Diaspora, Colm Brophy, announces the new figures.
The Irish Government has always valued the work that our societies do within the community and the new investment shows their continued commitment.
We talk to the Minister and Noelette Hanley from Luton Irish Forum about the importance of this funding
To play us out of part 2, it’s a new song from Nathan Carter, “The Morning After”, featuring the legendary Philomena Begley in an unusual cameo role in the video!
