This week we are at the annual London Galway Association Golf Day. Taking place at South Herts Golf Club, this fundraising day brings together 21 teams of various skill levels, ranging from nearly professional to those that just do it for fun. We talk to Seamus O’Grady, the Association’s President, and meet some of the players that have travelled a long way for the event.
We also hear from the event’s organisers and meet the Galway Association’s new Chairman, Brendan Brien.
The golf event acts as a fundraiser for Brian Boylan’s charity Reach Out, which gives badly needed support to elderly Irish people in London.
Amongst prizes to be won is the Sean Burke Cup, given out to the best performing player on the day. Sean and his brother Bobby, were founder members of the Galway Association in London. Sean passed in 2020. Bobby speaks to us about his involvement over the years and how the association is going forward. His older sister Maura passed earlier this year, and Bobby reflects on her life.
