In Part 1… We’re at the Warrington Irish Club for a day of celebrating all things Irish. Along with The Gathering, we have a day of music and dance, even supported by the Lord Mayor of Warrington. We also talk to John Lambe about his running group, Arcade Social Running. They’re all about running as a socialising event, often celebrating at the Arcade Bar in Huddersfield with a pint. It’s all about balancing pain and pleasure.
In Part 2… We’re at the Michael Davitt Memorial Golf Day at Rossendale Golf Club. The annual event culminates with the award of the Michael Davitt Trophy, this year going to Peter Dickinson and Robert Holden.
We talk to Angus Lindsay, the event’s organiser and meet some of the successful players.
Great weather, some excellent golf and our one and only Martin Logan gives out the prizes too.
In case you didn’t know, Michael Davitt was a leading figure in Irish land reform and the Republican movement in the 1800s. He was arrested for treason, served prison terms and was elected to parliament. Davitt spent all of his life working in some form or another as an activist, highlighting social injustice. His actions have directly led to land reform and the shaping of modern Ireland.
