Ep 346 – The Costa Gaels GAA Club in Marbella

This week, we’re giving you a break from the cold and dark of the UK winter to take you to Southern Spain and to meet the Costa Gaels.

Marbella has a vibrant Irish community, there for work as well as leisure. With over 320 days of sunshine per year and winter days as warm as a British summer, what is there not to like!

The Costa Gaels GAA Club was formed to fill a gap in all the activities that Marbella provides and competes against teams from Southern Spain and Gibraltar.

We follow the men’s and women’s teams during training and go with them to a match day in Gibraltar, at Europa Point, where the stadium looks out over Morocco!

We chat with Justin Parks, Chairman about keeping the club going and how it has become an essential part of the community.

Having an Irish passport makes travelling, working and settling in Europe very easy and we talk to Eimear Kelly and Hayleigh Quigg about how easy it was becoming a Teacher in Spain. If you are of Irish heritage and you haven’t already applied, you may be eligible for an Irish Passport. See below for details

We also talk to David Reilly, manager of Biddy Mulligans, a local Irish bar. David plays Gaelic Football and also sponsors the club. His family has a rich sporting heritage!
