Ep 396 – Drama Group in Rugby and 60th Anniversary Of Irish Community Care in Liverpool

In Part 1… We’re in Rugby with the recently formed community drama group, set up by Sean Quigley. They are performing “Sive”, a classic 1959 Irish play by John B Keane.

Sive is a story of exploitation, greed, love and tragedy set in North Kerry, and centres around the arranged marriage of a young woman to an old, but wealthy man. Despite its sinister plot, the story is told through lyrical dialogue and Irish humour.

We talk to the cast and look forward to new projects.

In Part 2… We’re in Liverpool with the Irish Community Care team celebrating their 60th year.

ICC Liverpool provides care and support for the Irish community and Irish travellers across Merseyside, Cheshire, Wigan and the wider Northwest.

We spoke with Breege McDaid, the director of Irish Community Care along with Consul General Sarah Mangan and Irish Ambassador Martin Fraser, who read out a special tribute from Michael D Higgins, Irish President.
