This week’s programme celebrates the life and legacy of Tony Grimes, a much-loved and influential member of the Liverpool Irish Centre community. Known for his generosity, humour and deep connection to Liverpool’s Irish community, Tony was a central figure at the centre for many years, bringing people together through sport, music and friendship.
Since Tony’s passing three years ago, his spirit has continued to inspire those who knew him. Each year, friends, family and community members come together to honour his memory through a series of events that reflect the passions he held dear. From lively GAA games to friendly golf days and music sessions, the celebrations are as much about community as they are about remembrance.
At the heart of it all is Tony’s lifelong school friend, Steve Yim, now in his 60s, who has taken on the role of organising the annual events. Through Steve’s dedication and the support of the wider community, the gatherings not only celebrate Tony’s life but also raise vital funds for Woodlands Hospice, the charity that provided care and support during Tony’s final days.
The programme is a heartfelt portrait of friendship, community and the enduring power of remembrance.
