The Irish in the UK-Episode 234- The McGuire family, Oliver King Foundation and Cowboy Larry

This week, we’re in Manchester for traditional Irish music & dance and then in Liverpool to hear about the tragic death of 12-year-old Oliver King, and how his dad, Mark, created a life-saving Foundation from the loss of his son.

In Part 1, we meet JeanLouise McGuire who is a multi-talented musician. All her children have followed in her footsteps and regularly perform around Manchester.
Just for us, they perform a rich variety of traditional songs, and they dance too! Sit back and enjoy the music!

In Part 2, we travel across to Liverpool and meet up with Mark King. In 2012, his son Oliver suffered sudden cardiac arrest. Oliver was an exceptional athlete and an up and coming football star.
There was no lifesaving defibrillator.

He sadly died at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Out of the tragedy, Mark launched a campaign to make defibrillators commonplace and now he and his team donate these lifesaving machines and give out training.

Thousands of devices have been distributed the length and breadth of the country and tens of thousands of people trained in how to use them
Mark also gives us an outline of how to use a defibrillator. Everybody needs to know!
And finally.. We play out the show with Cowboy Larry’s tribute the popular country singer, John Glenn.
